Inspired by a tweet by @gem_turner on commuting to work with a disability, I thought I'd add my 2p.⠀
⠀
This year I'm making a conscious effort to move from voluntary to paid work within the charity sector because I, like every other person want a job I'm passionate about. I've learnt, achieved and grown so much from volunteering and campaigning with various charities. So it does not matter to me if I need to commute quite a ways away. Infact my latest job interview was in London! "Unrealistic," "crazy" even some say but when you are dedicated, 100% confident and passionate about a cause you - Make... It... Work! I'd much rather travel, despite the disability-related hiccups on public transport than have a job closer to home that I hated. Disabled people commute to work, able people commute to work. There's no difference, just because you're disabled don't let ppl tell you long commutes to work aren't "worth it" for you. We all have and want a purpose.⠀

The snowfall only lasted 2 days max (at least where we live)! That day we'd nipped Ava to get her locks chopped for the 1st time ever at 3 years old... No joke! See she's a curly, wild haired little dynamo so it was never cut worthy upto now. Luckily our fave hairdressers is literally up the street, just as well as soon as we were done it was a blizzard out there!! Here we are making a mad dash home, my powerchair skidding every which way on the wet, icy ground but it was all good fun. Ava wanted to stay out in it bless her! 😂 🌨

Sometimes our dreams and ambitions can seem so far-fetched they seem pretty much impossible, but you will never know until you take the steps towards them if infact they are possible! You never know, you may actually surprise yourself. You may be more able to achieve or strive for things than you give yourself credit for. We are our own worst enemies for self-doubt. Don't let that get in the way. Dream big, work hard and you will never regret taking the leaps you did once you've succeeded beyond expectation. Happy Sunday!

Bless her, didn't make it past 6pm after her day at nursery. At least she just about finished her tea (as you can see by her ketchup chops) before she fell asleep sat up mid Despicable Me 2! Anybody else's toddler not make it to their usual bedtime on nursery days?

Isn't this beautiful? Just the motivation I need on those harder days - to pick myself up, dust myself off and crack on!⠀
⠀
If you're expecting a baby, I highly recommend joining a birth group on platforms like fb. Not only for that invaluable support and advice in the early days of Motherhood but for the life long friendships ♥

Something I lost the ability to do in mid childhood.

Weight baring is so beneficial for improving circulation, improving bone density, aids digestion and much more. Like many others with #MuscularDystrophy, I went without ANY form of Physiotherapy for YEARS after the age of 18. Why? There are no specialist Physiotherapists available on the NHS for us once we reach adulthood with these muscle-wasting conditions, leaving charities like the NMC to try and help as many people as possible with little funding. Those years without therapy meant my condition was left to naturally progress, if I'd of been able to access physio continuously in the transitioning years - my legs wouldn't of developed as severe of contractures like you see here. Yes, MD has no treatments or cure but things like Physiotherapy help us stay flexible and maintain what we can do for as long as possible. I travel almost 2hrs there and back every fortnight to try and remain physically stable for as long as my condition will allow. I am so incredibly grateful to live close enough to this one of a kind centre in the UK that supports adults living with Neuromuscular conditions, if I lived any further away things would be very different! Which is the case for so many 😔
